WebCrossing Upgrade Adds PNG Image Processing and Upgrades Compressed File Serving

WebCrossing’s server-side scripting is powerful and lets you modify and add features practically without limit.

The scripting language contains some image processing commands. Until now, these commands took JPEG and GIF binaries and could rescale them and save them in an optimized format on the server.

This upgrade adds similar support to PNG images. In particular, the upgraded commands are imageResizeWHToJpeg and imageResizeToJpeg, which take JPG, GIF, and now PNG binaries and either rescales them to a specified width and height, or resizes them by a specified percent, at a specified quality, and returns the result as a JPEG binary.

This can be used, for example, with an HTML editor you add to your site to efficiently handle and store uploaded images. Or perhaps you might want to use them to store profile pictures of members. There are a multitude of possible uses. We have some script examples if you are interested. Let us know.

This build also upgrades the library used for serving compressed versions of static files, such as stylesheets, bringing those features up-to-date.
The latest release version is now WebCrossing 6.4 18f16a9 2021-04-05.
